"Angola is lucky to have CISA that treats diseases that are important, especially malaria that has a brutal effect on mortality in the country," said Pedro Pessoa e Costa, during a visit this Wednesday to Bengo province, where CISA is located.

The ambassador, quoted by Angop, admitted that CISA is an important project for collaboration between the two countries in the area of medicine, research and science.

The center is proof that Angola has been investing in youth and training of people, he said.

Jocelyne de Vasconcelos, director of CISA, took the opportunity to reveal that since the center started operating in 2007, 25 research projects have been developed and five are currently under development.

Mara Quiosa, Governor of Bengo, highlighted the quality of CISA's research. The center's research allows the prevention and treatment of several diseases in that region, especially malaria, which continues to be the main cause of death in that province, she added.

During his visit, the Portuguese ambassador visited the Bengo General Hospital laboratory, the works of the new emergency bank and the Materno Infantil Center of Mabulas.

CISA is an initiative of the Angolan Ministry of Health, the Bengo Provincial Government, Portuguese Cooperation and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and aims to promote medical research in the country.
