According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), the African continent now has 2,304,485 cases of infected people among the 55 members of the African Union.
The number of recovered in the last 24 hours was 6976, for a total of 1,968,447.
The largest number of cases of infection and deaths are registered in Southern Africa, with 930,220 cases and 24,342 fatalities. In this region, South Africa, the continent's most affected country, accounts for 828,598 cases of infection and 22,574 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, having passed 800 thousand cases (803,591), and has registered 20,981 fatalities.
East Africa accounts for 289,340 cases and 5437 deaths, in West Africa the number of infections is 213,607, with 2934 deaths, while Central Africa has 67,727 cases and 1222 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 6832 deaths and 119,702 infected, followed by Morocco, which counts 6427 fatalities, but more than three times the cases of infection: 388,184.
Among the six most affected countries are also Tunisia, with 106,856 infected and 3717 dead, Algeria, which has passed the 90,000 cases (90,194), and has 2537 dead, Ethiopia, with 114,834 cases and 1769 fatalities, and Nigeria , with 70,669 infected and 1184 deaths.
Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola recorded 355 deaths and 15,729 cases, followed by Mozambique (138 deaths and 16,440 cases), Cape Verde (109 deaths and 11,192 cases), Equatorial Guinea (85 deaths and 5,183 cases), Guinea -Bissau (44 dead and 2444 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 killed and 1005 cases).
