Minister of Health asks parents to take children to polio vaccine

The Minister of Health clarified this Friday that the vaccination campaign against polio, which started in three provinces, is not about trials for vaccine of covid-19.

Sílvia Lutucuta, who was speaking on television, appealed to parents to take their children to the vaccination, which started in the provinces of Luanda, Cuanza Norte and Cuanza Sul, which plans to immunize more than 1.5 million children, under the age of five.

According to the minister, this Friday started the third phase of the integrated vaccination campaign against wild poliovirus, the oral polio vaccine, which can be derived from the vaccine, rubella, measles and vitamin A supplement.

"It is important to clarify that this is not a vaccination against covid-19. We have heard several versions, from people who are saying they are doing clinical trials, others say they are trying the covid vaccine, it is not what is doing, "said the minister.

The official stressed that vaccination against covid-19 will be in other words, it will not cover children of the ages referred to vaccination against polio, and is only scheduled for next year.

"We appeal here to parents to take their children to the vaccine, parents who have children under the age of five should take their children for the vaccine, because this way we can prevent four diseases, polio, measles, rubella and we are going to increase the vitamin A supplement in our children's bodies, so they don't have problems with their vision later, "he said.

The holder of the portfolio of Health reinforced that the vaccination campaign against covid-19 has a very well designed plan, emphasizing that the Government is working with AGAVI, with the Covax Initiative and the World Health Organization, for a quantity 12 million doses of vaccine, in a first phase.

"These vaccines do not all come at the same time, there will be five million in the first installment, by April we will have 15 million and they will be for health professionals who are always at the forefront and people at risk," he said.
