According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the African continent now has 2,215,216 cases of infected people among the 55 members of the African Union.
The number of recovered in the last 24 hours was 29,328, for a total of 1,892,013.
The largest number of cases of infection and deaths are registered in Southern Africa, with 899,558 cases and 23,457 fatalities.
In this region, South Africa, the most affected country on the continent, now exceeds 800,000 cases of infection (800,872) and accounts for 21,803 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 764,869 people infected and 19,993 fatalities.
East Africa accounts for 277,036 cases and 5,284 deaths, in West Africa the number of infections is 207,647, with 2890 deaths, while Central Africa has 66,106 cases and 1200 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 6713 deaths and 117,156 infected, followed by Morocco, which counts 6063 fatalities and 368,624 cases of infection.
Among the six most affected countries are also Tunisia, with 99,280 infected and 3359 dead (the same figures as 24 hours ago), Algeria, with 85,927 infections and 2463 dead, Ethiopia, with 111,579 cases and 1724 fatalities, and Nigeria, with 68,303 infected and 1,179 deaths.
In relation to Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola recorded 352 deaths and 15,361 cases, followed by Mozambique (132 deaths and 15,918 cases), Cape Verde (107 deaths and 10,938 cases), Equatorial Guinea (85 deaths and 5159 cases), Guinea -Bissau (44 dead and 2,441 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 dead and 997 cases).
