Authorities close company suspected of spill at Cacuaco seafront

The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment said this Wednesday that the company that caused a solid waste spill at the seafront of Cacuaco, in Luanda, has been closed, while the investigation to find out what happened is underway.

:

Jomo Fortunato went to the site, Sunday, after the warning by the municipal administration of Cacuaco, which received the complaint last Thursday, that a solid waste collection company would be responsible for that situation.

At the time, an inquiry was opened to find out what was causing the spill and questioned this Wednesday by Lusa about the results of the same, the minister said that "the investigation is in its final phase".

"This kind of thing requires the collection of samples and their laboratory study and I think we will have news after the end of the year. We were thinking that it would be very brief, but no, that requires a certain kind of technological acuity, which is only possible with a certain extension of time," replied Jomo Fortunato.

According to the minister, the company is closed to activities at this moment and the authorities will "pass to the analysis of the results and the respective legal follow-up of the matter".

The municipal director of Environment and Sanitation in Cacuaco, Francisco Vitorino, said, Domingo, quoted by Angop, that the samples collected aim to assess what kind of spillage it is and the degree of contamination it can cause to marine species and public health.

Francisco Vitorino explained that the drainage ditch where the situation occurred receives waste from various points, but the trail follow-up gave the company Ango-Jordan, which claims that one of the employees put chlorine to wash the container and, "negligently," poured the contents into the sewer, giving rise to the spill.

"The liquid is mixed with burnt oil and water, we don't know exactly what it is, let's wait for the results of the lab tests," said Francisco Vitorino.
