Covid-19: authorities concerned about people without a second dose of vaccine

The Secretary of State for Public Health warned this Monday to the number of people who have not yet taken the second dose of the vaccine against covid-19, "with a very large gap" between the two doses.

Franco Mufinda, who was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the celebration of the World Day for Universal Health Coverage, said that the country has available many vaccines, which have been acquired by the Government and also through donations.

"At this moment, we have over 19 million vaccines in stock, we have already immunized 10.5 million people with the first dose, we are talking about just over three million people who would have already closed the vaccination process. a very large gap between the first dose and the second, (the) people in need exceed seven million," he said.

The government official appealed to the population to join the vaccination posts and also the brigades that were created according to the reality of each region of the country.

According to Franco Mufinda, it is expected that, at the beginning of 2022, the process of vaccinating adolescents between 12 and 17 years old will begin.

"This is the plan that the multisectorial commission has and there is also a thought of strengthening the third dose. We have over 19 million doses, which gives rise to this procedure," he said.

In turn, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Angola, Djamila Cabral, reinforced the call for compliance with the vaccination schedule, in order to fight the pandemic.

Djamila Cabral, who participated in the ceremony, considered it necessary and essential for the eligible Angolan population to take the two doses of the vaccine, for the protection of themselves and the community.

The official also expressed concern at having registered a certain slowdown in the demand for vaccination.

The WHO representative in Angola stressed that in addition to causing disabilities and deaths, covid-19 diverted human resources, infrastructure and funding for other services.
