Country debuts in MMA world championship with three fights

Three of the 27 athletes who make up the national Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) team will take to the stage this Tuesday at the world championship, which will take place in Uzbekistan until next Sunday. The athletes who will make the country's debut in the world championship are Axel Sugusto, William Bombo and Mário Stefan.

According to a statement from the Angolan Federation of Mixed Martial Arts (FAMMA), to which VerAngola had access, Axel Augusto will face the North American Gabriel Muscat, in the 74.8 kilogram category.

William Bombo will meet in the ring the "host Nodirbek Shavkatov in the up to 70.3 kg category", while Mário Stefan will compete with the Ukrainian Andrii Guslavskyi, in the up to 83.9 kg category.

After this debut, the team will step back into the ring on Wednesday.

"For Wednesday, Angola will have the participation of more athletes, including Nkunga Vakanda, Pedro Calembela, Clélio Diogo (65.8 kg), Tulunda Daniel (74.8 kg), Leonardo Pascoal (61.2 kg) and Mafuana Mbungo (56.7 kg)", points out FAMMA.

The federation remembers that there are still other athletes competing, remembering that the fight calendar can be consulted here.

According to Angop, this is the third time that the country has been present at the World Cup, after having participated in the 2022 and 2023 editions.

The national MMA team is made up of the following athletes: Nkunga Vakanda, Ricardo Pireza, Milfa Nicolau, Jones Mabungu, Nilza Muhanha, Nadir Vieira, Maria Kitoko, Clarence Francisco, Mafuana Mbungu, Leonardo Pascoal, Adalberto Ntyamba, Matias Monteiro, Clélio Diogo, Pedro Calembela, William Bombo, Tulunda Daniel, Axel Augusto, Mário Stefan, Anderson Gouveia, Elias Augusto, Nicklas Herlander, Massanu Mbimba, Hélder Manuel, Elfran Marques, Esperança Pereira, Maria Liberal and Georgina Ludmila.
