According to a statement from the Cuanza Norte government, which VerAngola had access to, the meeting was held to discuss the "main challenges that impact the lives of citizens" in that province.
On that occasion, the provincial governor gave a detailed presentation of local concerns and achievements, as well as ongoing projects "planned to improve the quality of life of the population and boost the development" of Cuanza Norte.
In his speech, Diogo Gaspar called for greater attention to be paid to social sectors, such as education, health, housing, etc.
"The governor's report highlighted challenges in priority sectors, such as education, health, drinking water, electricity, housing, agriculture and infrastructure", the statement reads.
In this sense, the governor highlighted the "urgent need for solutions to these issues", having stressed that improving people's living conditions is a "top priority".
The note states that among the requests presented, the most important are the "acceleration of asphalting works on the access roads to the municipal headquarters of Banga, Quiculungo and Bolongongo" and also the start of asphalt paving of the road to the municipality of Massangano.
With regard to housing, João Diogo Gaspar mentioned the project to build a central area with 2000 homes, as well as a "second project for 5000 social housing units, which should accommodate families in high-risk areas".
He also pointed out the need to refurbish the main neighbourhoods of Ndalatando, as well as renew the "water and electricity distribution network in the cities and towns of the province, with emphasis on Ndalatando, Cambambe and Ambaca".
Furthermore, "improvements to the health system and the expansion of educational and training opportunities at different levels, including technical and professional education, are considered fundamental to promoting urban development and expanding access to essential services", the statement reads.
The governor also reiterated the provincial government's commitment "to the development of agriculture and livestock farming as strategic pillars in the fight against poverty and the promotion of food security".
According to Diogo Gaspar, these are essential sectors for diversifying the economy and creating "solid foundations for the agro-industrialization of the province", creating new employment opportunities, especially for young people, and "driving sustainable growth" in the province.
The governor of Cuanza Norte also praised the efforts of the Executive led by João Lourenço, highlighting that "the projects already implemented have brought hope and satisfaction to the population, reflecting the government's commitment to meeting the needs of its citizens".
The President of the Republic was in Cuanza Norte in recent days, where he carried out a work session. His agenda included the inauguration of the province's general hospital, visits to the drinking water system from the Lucala River and an agricultural fair, as well as a meeting with the provincial government.
After this mission, the President returned to Luanda, where he arrived on Wednesday afternoon.
Wednesday was also marked by João Lourenço's message of consternation regarding the road accident in Cuanza Norte, where a bus carrying dozens of passengers skidded, causing five deaths and more than 40 injuries.
"It was with deep consternation that I learned of the tragic accident that occurred yesterday, when the bus carrying some people who had participated in civic events in the city of Ndalatando suffered a serious road accident, causing several deaths and dozens of injuries", said the Head of State, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The governor of Cuanza Norte was also not indifferent to the accident, having visited some of the victims of the accident in the hospitals where they are receiving assistance.
