Visits to a drinking water system and an agricultural fair mark the first day of work of the PR in Cuanza Norte

The President of the Republic's first day of work in the province of Cuanza Norte was not only marked by the inauguration of the province's new general hospital, but also by visits to the works of the drinking water collection, treatment and distribution system from the Lucala River and a fair to assess the province's agricultural and livestock potential.

During the visit to the drinking water system, João Lourenço made an assessment of the progress of construction work on the water capture, treatment and distribution system from the Lucala river, which will bring "drinking water to more than 130 thousand families in Ndalatando, Lucala and adjacent areas", says a statement from the government of the province of Cuanza Norte, to which VerAngola had access.

Speaking during the visit, the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, said that the "completion of the project is scheduled for February 2025" and will guarantee more than 15,000 new household connections in Ndalatando, as well as 3500 connections in Lucala, "covering also villages along the National Road (Cazengo-Lucala)".

Quoted in the statement, the minister said that this initiative "reflects the Executive's vision" of guaranteeing "dignified conditions" for the population.

"This project reflects the vision of the Government of Angola in ensuring dignified and healthy living conditions for communities", said Baptista Borges, highlighting the "direct impact on the health and development of the local population".

Also present on the occasion were the provincial governor of Cuanza Norte, João Diogo Gaspar, as well as other high-level authorities, whose event "demonstrated the commitment of the provincial government and the President to providing access to an essential and strategic asset for sustainable development of the province".

This system, says the statement, not only improves the quality of life of citizens, but also points to "a significant advance in basic infrastructure", placing the province "on the path to sustainable development", which is why the provincial governor highlighted that it is "creating conditions so that every citizen has access to the essential good of water, which means dignity and development".

According to Angop, this system, to be built since September 2021 and valued at 31.2 million dollars, will have a pumping capacity of 17.7 thousand cubic meters of water per day.

Another highlight of João Lourenço's first day of work in the province was the visit to an agricultural and livestock fair.

According to another note from the provincial government to which VerAngola had access, this Tuesday, hundreds of citizens and producers from Cuanza Norte attended the Agricultural and Livestock Exhibition Fair, where the head of state was evaluating the agricultural and livestock potential of the province.

On this trip, João Lourenço was accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, as well as the governor of Cuanza Norte, João Diogo Gaspar and representatives of the central government.

"The President toured the stands, observing the variety of agricultural and livestock products that reflect the productive potential of the province and its importance for the economic diversification of Angola", says the note.

On the occasion, Fernando Mesquita, director of the Provincial Agriculture Office, highlighted the fair as a "demonstration of Cuanza Norte's productive strength", which ends up acting "as a pillar for national food security and exports".

In turn, the municipal administrator of Samba Caju, Maria Mafuta Bafuntidy, highlighted that the fair reinforces "the ties between producers and markets", while the municipal administrator of Cazengo, Fernadinho Leitão, highlighted that the "presence of the President encourages the local community to expand its production capacity".

The municipal administrator of Bolongongo, Victoria Braga Francisco, considered that the fair is "a source of pride for the population, who see the event as recognition of the tradition and efforts of local farmers and livestock breeders", the statement reads.

On this Wednesday's agenda, the President of the Republic has scheduled a meeting with the provincial government, which will serve to x-ray the current situation in the province.
