The information was released on Friday, at a press conference in Zaire, by the spokesperson for the Angolan National Police, Deputy Commissioner Mateus Rodrigues.
According to the Border Guard Police and Customs Police, between 8 and 28 October, several fuel smuggling operations were dismantled, resulting in the seizure of a total of 462,449 litres (185,300 litres of petrol and 277,149 litres of diesel).
Thirty-four Angolan and foreign citizens suspected of this crime were also arrested.
The PNA spokesperson explained that the seizures and arrests occurred most frequently in the province of Zaire (north of the country, bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo), where 41,130 litres of fuel were seized, and in the provinces of Moxico, Lunda Norte, Cabinda, Cuando Cubango, Cunene, Cuanza Norte, Uíge and Lunda Sul.
"The smugglers, using clandestine routes (foote routes), carried out their actions, disguising the fuel as various products, actions that caused losses to the State coffers of around 110,859,600 kwanzas", according to the authorities.
