Handball CAN: Angola becomes champion and wins 15th title

Angola won, last Saturday, the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in handball. In a replay of the last final, the national senior women's team won its 15th trophy after beating Cameroon 29-19.

The first minutes of the match were marked by balance. Having managed to block the advance of its counterpart on the scoreboard, the national team went into halftime with a three-point advantage (13-10).

In the second half of the game, the national team managed to calmly dominate the scoreboard, reaching the final whistle with an advantage of 10 points.

It should be noted that Helena Paulo won the CAN Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. According to a note from the Angolan Handball Federation, to which VerAngola had access, the 1.º de Agosto player "was one of the key players in the Pearls' triumph, in the final, against Cameroon by 29-19".

The player Liliane Venâncio was elected the best pivot in the championship. Still in the seven ideal of the continent are the athletes Natália Bernardo and Juliana Machado, as winger and left side, respectively.

The team dedicated this victory – which gives Angola the revalidation of the title and qualification for the next World Cup – to Nagrelha, who died last Friday. According to Jornal de Angola, after receiving the medals, the players danced to the song "Comboio", not letting the kudurista's death go unnoticed.

The champions are scheduled to arrive in the country on Tuesday, November 22nd, where they are expected from 12:00.
