João Lourenço goes to Kigali to “remove tension” between Rwanda and DRCongo

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, travels to Kigali on Friday to try to "remove tension" between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo), the Presidency announced.

João Lourenço "travels to the city of Kigali, capital of the Republic of Rwanda, as part of the diplomatic efforts he undertakes, as a mediator, to remove the prevailing tension between Rwanda and DRCongo", reads a note.

"In Kigali, President João Lourenço will work with President Paul Kagame on the delicate topic, one more step in the search for peace and understanding in eastern Democratic Congo after the tripartite ministerial meeting that took place in Luanda last Saturday" , is added in the note.

The President will have the Minister of Foreign Affairs waiting for him, who arrived in Kigali today to accompany the head of state on the 24-hour visit.

"The visit of the highest representative of the Angolan nation is part of the strengthening of friendship and cooperation relations between Angola and Rwanda", points out the text sent by the ministry led by Téte António.

On Saturday, a meeting of the ministers of Foreign Affairs of Angola, DRCongo and Rwanda was held in Luanda, "with the aim of relaunching the dialogue between the Congolese and Rwandan authorities and resuming the process of implementing the Luanda Roadmap, of 6 of July 2022".

Angola and Rwanda are part of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the African Union (AU), and have a close relationship.
