"With screenings on December 5th and 6th, the film will be in competition for the Best Film award, a category that showcases challenging and innovative cinematic productions with great storytelling from emerging and established voices, celebrated with the grand prize awarded by a international jury", reads a statement sent to VerAngola.
At the invitation of the organisation, the note adds, the director of the film Ery Claver, as well as Jorge Jorge Cohen (producer), Cláudia Pucuta (Best Actress at Unitel Angola Move) and David Caracol (actor) will attend the event.
The festival is themed 'Film is Everything' and presents itself as "a diverse and comprehensive platform that celebrates all facets of filmmaking".
"Nossa Senhora da Loja do Chinês", which had its world premiere in August this year at the Locarno Film Festival, has already been screened at the International Film Festival of India, Porto Post Doc Film Festival, Festival do Rio, BFI London Film Festival and at Film Fest Ghent.
Furthermore, the film was recently awarded the Jury Prize for Best Feature Film at the Festival International du Film d'Amiens.
According to the statement, with this feature film "Ery Claver makes his debut as a director, a film produced by the cinematographic collective Geração 80".
Synopsis of the film: "When a Chinese merchant brings a unique holy plastic image of Our Lady to a neighborhood in Luanda, a grieving mother seeks peace, an attentive barber starts a new cult, and a disoriented young man seeks revenge for his lost friend. This bizarre urban tale will reveal a family and a city facade filled with resentment, greed and tragedy."
