Jânio Correia Victor, who was speaking at a press conference to announce the event, said that the conference has, among other objectives, to publicize the numerous business opportunities in the diamond subsector and to continue to give credibility to the national mining sector, as well as to make it known nationally and internationally the value of the Angolan diamond.

"We are directed, first of all, to make known what Angolan diamond is, in fact, this is very important. Diamond, in addition to being a 'commodity', is a strategic mineral resource, but it occurs in our country under its own conditions", said Correia Victor.

The official also pointed out that for the event, which will be based on presentations and interactive debates, as well as round tables, national and international experts from the world of diamonds and large multinationals that already operate in Angola were invited, namely Al Rosa, Rio Tinto and Anglo American, among others that Angola is working towards its presence in the country.

"All of them were invited, in some cases, almost all of them have affirmative answers and then we are still waiting, because at the moment we still have three weeks of practically the beginning of this event", he said.

According to Jânio Correia Victor, invitations were sent to some distinguished personalities in the mineral sector from several neighboring countries, namely Namibia, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as top representatives of companies that collaborate with Angola in the exploration, cutting and marketing of diamonds.

"Many have already confirmed, if not most, the others are in the process of confirmation, but what we can say at the moment is that our conference will be filled with actors both nationally and internationally who have to do with diamonds", said the ruler.

The program provides for the first panel an approach to geological mining research in Angola, with a focus on diamonds and the situation of the diamond industry in the country, for the second panel the Angolan exploration of diamonds, for the third the cutting of diamonds, for the fourth panel the marketing and world market of diamonds, in the fifth panel the technological and logistical innovation of the diamond industry, and in the sixth panel the financing of diamond projects.

On the second day, the conference will be dedicated to the theme of social responsibility and a brief visit to the Diamond Development Hub of Saurimo.

The Secretary of State for Mineral Resources highlighted the importance of holding this event at a time when the country is going through "critical moments", which were exacerbated by the covid-19 pandemic, to promote this national product.

"This does not mean that we have to stand still. We have to promote and we do it not with treasury resources, but with the companies' own resources, which will finance this activity. Because it is in our country's interest that we show and give to really know what the Angolan diamond means, what are its valences", he stressed.

Regarding the costs of the event, the chairman of the board of directors of the National Diamond Company of Angola (Endiama), José Ganga Júnior, said that the final budget has not yet been defined, but indicated the value of approximately 300 million kwanzas reimbursed by companies and participants.
