At the opening ceremony, the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta, addressed the President of the Republic asking for permission to speak to a "visionary, human, stately Angolan citizen who took us on a journey of a dream, which became a reality and which began a few months before the beginning of this legislature, more specifically on December 15, 2017, when he visited the sanatorium hospital that was considered by many as death row".
"From today, the famous death row becomes life row," she said.
The hospital complex, according to a government note, has an inpatient capacity of 300 beds, but the unit is capable of treating more patients, with and without tuberculosis, in the outpatient service "which becomes part of an accident and emergency department , physiotherapy area and a non-invasive diagnostics center".
In addition, the hospital has four operating rooms and two bronchoscopy procedures, rooms for performing CAT scans, MRI, X-ray, among others.
A main laboratory, catheterization and volumetric relaxation laboratories, as well as specialized rooms for cardio-pulmonary operation, angiography and nuclear medicine also comprise the hospital.
In addition, according to the note, the unit also has a sterilization service, a pharmacy and a morgue.
For now, the complex has the collaboration of 538 professionals, including 25 doctors (18 Angolans and seven Cubans), 215 nurses and 298 support staff.
"To train its staff, the hospital complex has a training center equipped with simulation rooms for an intensive care unit, an operating room and multiple functions, resuscitation and observation simulation, in addition to a study room for cases and an auditorium for professional training," the statement said.
The production of oxygen will also be carried out at the hospital, "also with refrigeration services, alternative energy, 450 spaces in the parking area and a modern and attractive landscaping arrangement".
