Covid-19: country announces 108 new cases and one more death

The country has registered in the last 24 hours 108 new cases of covid-19, one death and 93 people recovered from the disease, announced this Tuesday the Secretary of State for Public Health.

According to Franco Mufinda, of the new infections 79 occurred in Luanda, 15 in Kwanza Norte, 12 in Huambo and two in Huila, aged between 1 and 66 years, 55 male and 53 female.

There was also a death by covid-19, a 47-year-old Angolan resident in Namibe.

However, 93 people have recovered from the disease, noted the Health Officer, also highlighting a "slight slowdown" in the number of infections in the last 15 days.

Angola has 14,742 cases, of which 338 died, 7444 were considered recovered and 6960 were active, including five critically ill, 13 severe and 181 moderate.

Angolan laboratories have processed 2263 samples in the last 24 hours, in a cumulative of 219,969 tests.

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,397,322 deaths from over 59.2 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 49,976 confirmed deaths in more than two million people infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent statistics about the pandemic in the continent.

Angola registers 338 deaths and 14,742 cases, followed by Mozambique (127 deaths and 15,231 cases), Cape Verde (104 deaths and 10,400 cases), Equatorial Guinea (85 deaths and 5137 cases), Guinea-Bissau (43 deaths and 2422 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 deaths and 974 cases).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
