Covid-19: Angola reports 137 new cases and four deaths

The country registered 137 more infections by the new coronavirus and four deaths, while 89 people have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, announced this Wednesday the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.

Of the new cases, 44 were notified in Luanda, 43 in Kwanza Norte, 27 in Zaire, 16 in Huila, six in Uige and one in the province of Malanje, aged 4 to 74.

The disease was diagnosed in 79 males and 58 females.

Four people died from covid-19, two men and two women, aged 16, 57, 60 and 68, all of Angolan nationality.

A further 89 people were considered recovered from the disease.

In total, 12,953 cases of covid-19 have been reported in Angola, of which 312 have died, 6125 have been recovered, and 6516 have been active, including nine in critical condition and 12 severe.

180,211 samples have been processed to date, of which 2019 in the last 24 hours, with a daily positivity rate of 6.8 percent.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 1,275,113 deaths in more than 51.5 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 45,959 confirmed deaths in more than 1.9 million infected in 55 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on the continent.

Angola registers 312 deaths and 12,953 cases, followed by Cape Verde (102 deaths and 9560 cases), Mozambique (104 deaths and 13,991 cases), Equatorial Guinea (85 deaths and 5102 cases), Guinea-Bissau (43 deaths and 2419 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (16 deaths and 962 cases).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
