Africa with 345 more deaths exceeds 1.9 million infected by covid-19

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded another 345 deaths related to covid-19, increasing to 45,954 the total fatalities of the new coronavirus, which has already infected 1,904,820 people in the region, according to official data.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), in the 55 member states of the organization there were 13,076 more cases of infection with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The number of recovered people is now 1,607,108, 9968 more than the day before.

The largest number of cases of infection and deaths are in Southern Africa, with 827,660 infections and 21,470 deaths from covid-19. In this region, South Africa, the continent's most affected country, accounts for a total of 740,254 cases of infection and 19,951 deaths.

North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has a total of 589,130 ​​people infected and 16,026 killed and in East Africa there are 231,368 cases and 4494 fatalities.

In the West African region, the number of infections is 195,067, with 2800 fatalities, and Central Africa has 61,595 cases and 1,164 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 6394 deaths and 109,654 infected, followed by Morocco, which counts 4425 fatalities and 265,165 cases of infection.

Algeria followed, with 63,446 infections and 2077 deaths.

Among the six most affected countries are also Ethiopia, which records 100,327 cases of infection and 1,537 fatalities, and Nigeria, with 64,336 infected and 1,160 dead.

In relation to African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique has the highest number of cases.

Angola records 308 deaths and 12,816 cases, followed by Cape Verde (101 dead and 9499 cases), Mozambique (99 killed and 13,892 cases), Equatorial Guinea (85 dead and 5102 cases), Guinea-Bissau (43 dead and 2419 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (16 dead and 962 cases).
