Africa with 433 more deaths and a total of 1,881,356 infected by covid-19

Africa has recorded a 433 increase in covid-19-related deaths in the last 24 hours, increasing the total number of fatalities from the new coronavirus to 45,282, which has already infected 1,881,356 people in the region, according to official data.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), in the 55 member states of the organization there were 11,008 more cases of infection with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The number of recovered people is now 1,588,803, 11,590 more than the day before.

The largest number of cases of infection and deaths are in Southern Africa, with 823,931 infections and 21,323 deaths from covid-19. In this region, South Africa, the continent's most affected country, accounts for a total of 737,278 cases of infection and 19,809 deaths.

North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has a total of 573,538 people infected and 15,577 killed and in East Africa there are 228,066 infected and 4431 fatalities.

In the West African region, the number of infections is 194,314, with 2791 fatalities, and Central Africa records 61,507 cases and 1160 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 6368 dead and 109,201 infected, followed by Morocco, which counts 4272 fatalities and 256,7811 cases of infection.

Algeria followed, with 62,062 infections and 2047 deaths.

Among the six most affected countries are also Ethiopia, which has 99,675 cases of infection and 1,523 fatalities, and Nigeria, with 64,090 infected and 1154 dead.

In relation to African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique has the highest number of cases.

Angola records 307 deaths and 12,433 cases, followed by Cape Verde (100 dead and 9369 cases), Mozambique (99 dead and 13,768 cases), Equatorial Guinea (85 dead and 5092 cases), Guinea-Bissau (42 dead and 2414 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (16 dead and 960 cases).
