Country with 236 more cases of covid-19 and five deaths approaches 300 deaths

Health authorities reported this Wednesday 236 new cases of covid-19 and five more deaths, totaling 296 deaths associated with the disease.

In the last 24 hours, five deaths by covid-19, four men and one woman, aged 47, 55, 61, 83 and 87, were reported.

Of the new infections, 111 were registered in Luanda, 45 in Benguela, 27 in Namibe, 22 in Zaire, 12 in Uige, seven in Cabinda, four in Malanje and Cunene, two in Huila, one in Huambo and another in Cuando Cubango, indicated the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.

The ages of the new cases vary between 5 months and 83 years.

36 people were also considered recovered from the disease.

Angola accounts for 11,813 positive cases to date, 296 deaths, 5266 data as recovered and 6251 active.

As for the samples, 2429 were analyzed with the accumulated reaching 166,755 tests.

Franco Mufinda warned of the growing number of cases and deaths, also at the level of the provinces outside Luanda, asking for a redoubling of efforts to disseminate information to the communities.

The Secretary of State also pointed out that the month of October had more than half of all cases notified by the 31st, emphasizing the need to comply with prevention measures, including the use of masks and avoid gatherings.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 1.2 million deaths in more than 47.5 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 43,612 confirmed deaths in more than 1.8 million infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent statistics about the pandemic in the continent.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
