UAN and Renmin University of China sign memorandum focused on strengthening scientific cooperation

Agostinho Neto University (UAN) and Renmin University of China (RUC) have strengthened their scientific cooperation, with the signing, this Tuesday, of a memorandum of understanding, whose focus is on strengthening “academic, scientific and cultural cooperation relations” between both educational institutions.

"Within the scope of this memorandum, cooperation is foreseen in strategic areas, such as the mobility of professors and researchers, as well as the sharing of good practices in academic management and research", points out the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, in statement to which VerAngola had access.

The signing ceremony took place on the UAN campus and were present the minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Paula de Oliveira, as well as a delegation from the RUC, headed by the president of the council, Zhang Donggang, and the Chinese ambassador to Angola, Zhang Bin.

The event began with brief words of welcome given by the rector of UAN, Pedro Magalhães.

Zhang Donggang then intervened, highlighting "the importance of exchanging good practices between universities in Africa and China", as well as underlining that "Renmin University adopts five-year plans, a practice that helps in monitoring and carrying out academic and scientific".

"One of the projects announced by Zhang Donggang, called 'Academic in Search of Truth', will offer funding for short-term training, promoting development opportunities for teachers and researchers," says the note.

Furthermore, the RUC also expressed the "intention to invite UAN academics to actively participate in joint research programs".

The Minister of Higher Education also highlighted the relevance of cooperation, as well as the fact that it is necessary to establish two more Confucius Institutes in Angola.

On the occasion, Paula de Oliveira, cited by Angop, said that the memorandum will allow a greater number of people to learn Chinese and be integrated into universities in China, especially in areas related to sustainable development, as well as highlighting the importance of universities Chinese companies in the progress of artificial intelligence, which it considers fundamental to the country's growth and encouraged cooperation between experts from Angola and China to promote academic opportunities.

The memorandum will initially last five years, with the possibility of renewal, and aims to train Angolan teachers in the scientific field and Mandarin instruction, with financial support from the Chinese institution.

After signing the agreement, says the guardianship's note, the "Chinese delegation participated in a guided visit to the UAN campus, with emphasis on the Confucius Institute, reinforcing the cultural and educational ties between the two nations".
