According to a statement from the Angolan National Diamond Trading Company (Sodiam), the online auction of special stones is being organised in collaboration with the company TRANS ATLANTIC GEM SALES.
The viewing sessions will take place from the 7th to the 16th of this month, at Sodiam's headquarters in Luanda, and the bidding process is due to close at 10:00 am local time on the last day.
The company says that the auction is aimed at customers registered in Sodiam's database and who have 'expertise' (experience) in the sale of special stones.
The lots consist of 20 stones produced by the mining company Kaixepa; 10 stones produced by Luele; eight stones produced by Catoca; two stones produced by Chitotolo; two stones produced by Tchegi; one stone produced by Lulo and one stone produced by Somiluana.
This is the eleventh auction of rough diamonds organised by Sodiam, the last one having been held in July of this year.
In the last auction, Sodiam raised 21.6 million dollars, with the bidding for 46 special stones, corresponding to 2,974.24 carats, from rough diamond productions of the Somiluana, Lulo, Kaixepa, Luele and Catoca Mining Companies, in which 36 companies participated.
Sodiam is the state-owned company responsible for marketing Angola's diamond production, originating from 17 productions, kimberlite and alluvial, which cover the entire spectrum of qualities in terms of sizes, models, purity and colours.
In 2023, Sodiam exported around 9.9 million rough carats for a total value of around 1.5 billion dollars, corresponding to an average price of 158 dollars per carat, positioning Angola as the world's third largest producer of rough diamonds in terms of value.
