Boos in parliament were heard when João Lourenço was speaking for about two hours and addressed the topic of the country's new administrative political division, which will take place next year and which will give rise to three new provinces in Angola from 2025 onwards.

"Local authorities now!", shouted the opposition deputies, forcing the President to interrupt the speech and reply: "If you don't want the President in this room, just say so and I'll leave. Easy".

With the noise diminishing, the chief executive continued, addressing the emergence of new municipalities and provinces, which will, in his view, foster a closer relationship between services and citizens and provide "a better approach to community problems".

João Lourenço guaranteed that the executive continues to work on the tasks necessary for the creation of local authorities, namely through strengthening administrative decentralization and highlighted that 13 executive proposals relating to the municipal legislative package are in the National Assembly.

The President of the Republic considered "false and misleading" the narrative that is being created and disseminated" according to which the institutionalization of local authorities would depend solely on his will and that he could, with a simple administrative act, call for municipal elections as soon as the National Assembly completes the legislative package in his possession.

"Deputies, this is simply impossible to happen because such an act would be null and void", he stressed.
