According to a statement from the municipal administration of Sumbe, to which VerAngola had access, the opening ceremony of the hemodialysis service was attended by Mara Quiosa, governor of the province of Cuanza Sul, accompanied by the Secretary of State for the Hospital Area, Leonardo European.
"With the aim of providing better assistance to people affected by kidney diseases, this Friday, October 18th, the new hemodialysis service at the new General Hospital of Cuanza Sul came into operation, in an event witnessed by the provincial governor of Cuanza Sul, Mara Quiosa in the company of the Secretary of State for the Hospital Area, Leonardo European", says the note.
This new service, according to the note, will allow "to benefit 88 patients daily divided into four shifts, offering specialized treatment for patients who, previously, needed to travel to other regions in search of care".
The governor of Cuanza Sul, Mara Quiosa, pointed out the fact that the opening of this hemodialysis service – which has four treatment rooms – will allow patients to receive treatment closer to home, as they will no longer have to travel several kilometers to other provinces to be treated.
"From this moment on, patients can continue their treatment at Sumbe, eliminating the constraints linked to transport, accommodation, food and other costs", she said, cited by Angop.
The start of the service, which is provided by two doctors and 15 nurses, was welcomed by patients.
This is the case, for example, of Bebiana Cavonga. According to Angop, the patient, who has had the disease for over a year, expressed satisfaction with this start, as she will no longer need to go to Benguela weekly to receive treatment.
