According to a statement from the provincial government of Namibe, which VerAngola had access to, the patient was wounded in the heart during a robbery.
"This is a 39-year-old male patient, victim of a stab wound to the heart, specifically in the left ventricle, during a robbery", the statement reads.
Once at the hospital, "the patient was received by a multidisciplinary team", who, recognizing the gravity of the situation, "immediately decided to subject him to thoracotomy and cardiography (heart suture)".
The surgery was performed successfully, and the patient is now in the ICU and progressing satisfactorily.
"The patient is in the ICU, awake, stable and with satisfactory clinical, echocardiographic and electrocardiographic progress, monitored by a team consisting of surgeons, intensive care specialists and cardiologists", the statement says.
