Angola in first place in the ranking of the most entrepreneurial countries in the world

Data from a report by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) reveals that the first place in the table of the most entrepreneurial countries in the world, in 2022/2023, is occupied by Angola. According to the document, the country has an entrepreneurship rate above 50 percent.

Angola – which is part of the group of low-income countries – is the country with the highest rate of entrepreneurship, set at 53.4 percent, reveals the document, published on the GEM website and cited by Angop.

Next come Guatemala, a middle-income country, and Panama, a high-income country, with rates of 29.4 percent and 27.9 percent, respectively.

More than half of the respondents (77 percent), according to the report – which analyzes entrepreneurial activity in fifty nations – say it is easy to open a business in Angolan territory, which ends up positioning Angola close to countries such as Sweden, Poland or India, which have percentages of 80, 79 and 78 percent, respectively.

According to the report, cited by Angop, more than half of the national citizens surveyed (78 percent) also expressed their intention to open a business in the next three years, taking into account that the processes for doing so are assumed to be "quite simple".

The data also reveals that 90 percent of the more than 2100 national entrepreneurs (a total of 2148) who contributed to the research said they had advanced with the creation of businesses to survive, as offers are scarce.

Thus, the high level of unemployment is the main driver of entrepreneurship: "The high level of unemployment is the main factor in the growth of entrepreneurship in the country, as it drives people to create companies", says the report, cited by Angop.
