TEDx returns to Luanda to “touch the stars” and reflect on the challenges of the century

The TEDxLuanda conference returns to the capital on October 21st, five years after the last edition, to reflect on technology, against the backdrop of major global challenges.

:

Speaking to Lusa, Januário Jano, organizer and curator of the conference, explained that the objective is to reflect together on the great challenges of the century and the technological revolution.

“I feel that the moment is very delicate, we know what is happening around the world and we need to reflect on this so that we can have a sense of where we are going”, he said.

A path that is intended to be based on pillars that help build a “sustainable society”, he added.

Under the motto “Touching the stars”, the 16 speakers, Angolans and foreigners, will be at the BAI Academy to present their ideas in no more than 18 minutes, before an audience that Januário Jano estimates to be over 600 people.

Regarding this “almost poetic” motto, Januário Jano stated that it makes sense at this time to “touch the stars, together”, after the global pandemic has exacerbated existing social and environmental problems, looking for inspiring ideas to boost progress.

The last edition of TEDxLuanda took place in 2018 and was supposed to return to the Angolan capital in 2020, which was not possible due to the pandemic.

TEDxLuanda, held in Luanda since 2012, is an event organized locally under the guidance of the TED organization, in which professionals, students and representatives of civil society participate.

Other TEDx events have also been held in Portuguese-speaking African cities, namely TEDxMaputo, in Mozambique, TEDxSãoTomé, in São Tomé and Príncipe, and TEDxPraia, in Cape Verde.
