International Aviation highlights advances in Angola with new infrastructure and training

The International Aviation Organization (ICAO) highlighted the advances in Angolan civil aviation, including investments in airport infrastructure and professional training, the Government announced this Wednesday.

According to a note from the Ministry of Transport, the recognition was made by the ICAO Secretary General, Juan Carlos Salazar, who sent the holder of the portfolio a letter "in which he recognizes and applauds the commitment, effort and investment that the Government Angola has been doing in the modernization of the civil aviation sector".

In the letter, Juan Carlos Salazar, according to the note, the ICAO Secretary General "recognises and applauds the work that the Government of Angola, through the Ministry of Transport, has been carrying out with a view to modernizing and efficiency in its civil aviation sector".

"In the same letter, this official informs that ICAO is available to continue supporting Angola in the field of supervision and security, with a view to making the country an important aviation hub in Africa", the note states.

"ICAO applauds the effort, investment and commitment that the Government of Angola has dedicated to the modernization and training of civil aviation in recent years. I highlight the investments made in the airport infrastructure, in the improvement of operations and in the professional training of its airline, in the restructuring of the provision of navigation services and the meteorological service, which show the continuous desire to improve the quality of the services provided and the connection to priority destinations in the global market", underlined Juan Carlos Salazar, quoted in the note.

The ICAO official highlighted the organization's commitment to supporting Angola through the assistance provided by its Technical Cooperation Office and the East Africa Regional Office in Nairobi.

"We are confident that, as this collaboration continues, the industry, supervisory systems and the expansion of connectivity to other destinations from Angola will continue to elevate its position as one of the most important aviation hubs in Africa", stressed.

In turn, the Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas d'Abreu, considered that ICAO's position "represents a vote of confidence in the work in progress and opens the door for the results of the next safety audit to be carried out by the organization in Angola to come to be positive".

"After meeting with ICAO's top officials at its 41st General Assembly, recently held in Canada, I am certain that this is a partnership that greatly contributes to the improvement of our civil aviation and to position it as one of the most respected in Africa", he said.

Ricardo d'Abreu expressed himself as "very confident" in the results that Angola will receive from the security audit to be carried out by ICAO in December, the results of which will be known at the end of March 2023.

"Basically, we believe that with partners like these, forward is the way", emphasized the minister.

Angola is in the process of completing the works on the new Luanda international airport and carried out the first experimental flight in June, which signaled the beginning of the infrastructure certification process, which will last until the end of 2023, when it begins operations " no restrictions".
