“We are all victims” of the war in Ukraine, says João Lourenço

The President said that all countries are being victims of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, calling for an immediate ceasefire and warning of the risks of this conflict becoming global.

In a message on the State of the Nation, which marked the opening of the new legislature in the National Assembly, João Lourenço pointed out the "very serious" global economic consequences of the war between Russia and Ukraine, which have seriously affected the dynamics and growth prospects of the several countries in the world.

"We are all victims, to a greater or lesser extent, of this war that broke out in the middle of Europe", underlined the chief executive, expressing concern about the number of human victims, displaced persons and refugees, as well as the destruction of infrastructure and heritage. cultural.

"In full alignment with the principle of non-interference, Angola will continue to reiterate its call for the immediate cessation of the war and urge the parties to privilege the use of dialogue, for the peaceful and definitive resolution of this conflict, with strong tendencies to become world", he stressed.

Angola voted last Wednesday in favor of the resolution on Ukraine's territorial integrity during the 11th emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly, after abstaining from previous resolutions condemning Russia.

João Lourenço also spoke of the diplomatic repositioning of Luanda, as he intends to give "particular attention" to the economic aspect of diplomacy in order to "continue to take advantage of dynamic international cooperation" with countries of strategic interest to Luanda.

He said that the opening of new diplomatic and consular representations is planned "to materialize" this "desire for repositioning on the African continent and bringing together regions of the world, internationally known for their strong political and economic potential".

Another important axis of national diplomatic action is the improvement of the peace situation in Africa, with an active role in all international and regional organizations that Angola integrates.

João Lourenço reaffirmed Angola's commitment to multilateralism, which he considered "one of the safest ways" to promote dialogue platforms in which each nation can make its contribution, avoiding "increasingly present temptations" that consist of "redesigning a kind of of bipolar configuration in the world".

Between 6 and 10 December Angola will host the 10th summit of African, Pacific and Caribbean heads of state, an event of "high importance" in which the country will assume the rotating presidency of this organization.
