In a statement released this Thursday, which Lusa agency had access to, the MPLA Political Bureau secretariat considered that the process of candidacies for individual bodies, within the scope of the 8th Ordinary Congress, "comes to reinforce the sense of internal democratization of the party".

Praising the candidacy of the militant and president of the João Lourenço party, the MPLA hopes that "others will follow its example", "gathering all the requirements in terms of the methodological norms of the conclave and the internal electoral regulations".

The appointment of the secretariat of the Central Committee's Political Bureau comes after the 10th extraordinary meeting, where matters "inherent in the internal life of the party and the organic process" of the 8th Ordinary Congress of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) were discussed ), which takes place from the 9th to the 11th of December.

Also at the meeting was analyzed Directive No. 03/SN/2021 "On the commemorations of the foundation of JMPLA - Jornada 23 de Novembro - 2021", which aims to exalt and commemorate the founding day of the party's youth organization (23 November of 1962), whose activities will take place between the 6th and the 30th of November.

The members of the MPLA Political Bureau secretariat also welcomed "the militant and democratic engagement that guides the spirit that is driving the preparation processes for the party's provincial conferences, which will take place between October 30th and November 5th".

MPLA president João Lourenço was the first militant of the party in power in Angola to formalize his candidacy for the party's leadership, aiming at the ordinary congress of the "comrades", scheduled for next December.

The information was provided on Wednesday by Luísa Damião, coordinator of the candidacy subcommittee of the National Preparatory Commission for the 8th Ordinary Congress of the MPLA.

According to Luísa Damião, who received 21,750 signatures subscribed by João Lourenço's supporters at the level of 18 provinces, the presentation of candidacies to individual bodies, within the scope of the party's conclave, has mobilized MPLA militants.

The signatures, which subscribe to the candidacy of João Lourenço, current President of the Republic, elected in 2017, distributed in 196 folders, were delivered to the candidacy subcommittee of the December elective congress.

Pedro de Morais Neto, João Lourenço's representative, said that the signatures were collected in a record period of seven days, admitting that the work was arduous and that the numbers presented exceeded the requirements.

"It was a very painstaking work, it is true that we exceeded the requirements, since there were 100 signatures left by provinces, but this proves well the work that was developed to collect the subscriptions in favor of our candidate's candidacy", he underlined.

The MPLA politician and representative of João Lourenço's candidacy was also "confident and calm" in a positive result for his candidate, considering that he "has more than enough conditions to deserve the guarantee of all MPLA militants".

The process of submitting candidatures, within the scope of this congress, started on the 20th of this month and runs until November 5th and the verification of their compliance takes place until November 6th.

Each candidacy must be supported by 2000 signatures, coming from 100 militants registered in each of the 18 provinces.
