UNITA asked for clarification on the Constitutional Court ruling that annulled congress

UNITA sent a letter to the Constitutional Court to clarify doubts about the ruling that determined the annulment of the 13th Congress and the removal of the elected leader, Adalberto da Costa Júnior, said the president of the party.

At the end of the ceremony in which he took office as adviser of the Republic, at the Presidential Palace, in Luanda, Isaías Samakuva, when asked about the TC ruling that determined the removal of Adalberto da Costa Júnior and his return to the party's leadership, considered that the document "is difficult to understand in its entirety", so he wrote a letter "to ask for clarification of certain doubts that arose when reading the judgment", without going into details.

The Constitutional Court (TC) annulled the XIII UNITA Congress, giving reason to a group of militants from the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), who requested the nullity of the congress, citing various irregularities.

Among the alleged irregularities is the dual nationality of Adalberto da Costa Júnior on the date of submission of his candidacy for the elections of the XIII Congress.

Last week, UNITA decided to schedule a new congress that should take place by December 4th. "It was decided that we should try to hold the congress as quickly as possible," Isaias Samakuva told reporters, expressing his conviction that the conclave will take place in about a month.

"Usually, we prepare in four months, but taking into account certain tasks that were done in the previous election, we thought we could try to work hard and hold the congress in that period of time, a little more or less in 40 days, the practice will say, this requires work dedication and we hope it will be possible," he stressed.

Samakuva stated that he is prepared to become a member of the Council of the Republic again, within the framework of his responsibilities as president of UNITA.

"As I had the opportunity to say at the time of the oath, this responsibility leads us to work for national unity, to be closer to the President, to give our knowledge, our experience and to be able to help in whatever is necessary", he said.

The inauguration preceded the session of the Council of Republic convened last week by João Lourenço to address the situation of covid-19 in Angola, present the report of the public consultation process on the alteration of the Administrative Policy Division and talk about the preparation of the electoral process.
