Covid-19: Angola announces eight more deaths and 185 new cases in 24 hours

Angola recorded eight more deaths due to covid-19, 185 new positive cases and 741 recoveries in the last 24 hours, announced this Tuesday the national directorate of Public Health.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the health entity, new cases were reported in Luanda (101), Huambo (28), Huíla (18), Benguela (14), Zaire (11), Cabinda (8), Malanje and Uíge with two cases each and Cuanza Norte with one case.

Luanda registered the highest number of deaths, with six, followed by Benguela province, with two.

The laboratories processed 5912 samples by RT-PCR during this period with a daily positivity rate of 3.1 percent. The cumulative points to 1,078,757 processed samples with a positivity rate of 5.9 percent.

Angola, which for over a year has been in a situation of public calamity, totals 63,197 positive cases, 51,770 recovered, 9749 active cases and 1678 dead.

Covid-19 has caused at least 4,902,638 deaths worldwide, out of more than 241.03 million infections with the new coronavirus registered since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest report by the Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected at the end of 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in several countries.
