Special Gaming Tax reaches all-time highs

According to Paulo Ringote, director-general of the Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ), the Special Gaming Tax has reached all-time highs. The information was released this Thursday, during the opening of a seminar on 'Responsible Gaming', organized as part of the commemorations of the 7th anniversary of the ISJ.

:

"ISJ's collection is already at historical maximum levels in terms of the Special Gaming Tax. Our goal for 2021 is to surpass the threshold of one billion, and for the year 2022, we want this tax to contribute to the minimum of a billion monthly for the single treasury account," he said.

According to the official, there is a need to regulate more, as this is the only way to better supervise and inspect. "This is a task that is very dear to us. Not only for us as supervisors, but also and above all for the operators, as they are the ones who directly relate to the bettors and players."

In a statement that VerAngola had access to, Paulo Ringote also recalled that operators are also responsible for guaranteeing what is known as Responsible Gaming from a legal standpoint, without prejudice to the objectives pursued by gaming regulators , which is also the realization of profit.

It is also based on these indications that the ISJ is reviewing the Gaming Activity Law, as the largest legal instrument in this sector, as it understands that it was drafted with "some urgency", aiming to regulate, above all, the phenomenon of games of chance , which were already practiced in the country, however without regulations and the proper legal framework, adds the official.

"We are thus preparing a new draft law, carrying out a broad process of public consultation with the main stakeholders in the sector, from the internal bodies of the Ministry of Finance, through contributions from individuals and, including contributions from the game operators", added.

The review aims, among other things, to correct the insufficiencies that have been verified in the application of the current law, including the review of the applicable tax regime. Likewise, the regularization of the practice of all games is underway, thus approving the respective regulations, explained the director.

In conclusion, Paulo Ringote appealed to the exploiting entities to a committed action in the field of combating money laundering and financing of terrorism.

"Angola will be subject to an international assessment of the ML/TF risk during the course of next year, but prior actions will start as early as next month. At our level, we will also assess the state of readiness of each of the operating entities. Therefore, the gaming sector operators are expected to act committed to the legal rules and at all levels a continuous commitment to the formation of our human capital is required", he concluded.

The event, which took place at MINFIN premises, reviewed the Economic Motivations for Gambling, as well as the Commitment, Ethics and Responsible Gambling Policies.

In the context of social responsibility, the ISJ witnessed the materialization of a financing agreement for the massification of national sport between the company in the sector (Premier Bet – Primeira Aposta) and the football school of "Tio Nandinho", located in Zango ( Luanda).
