The play, which will also be shown on Friday and Saturday, is the result of a partnership between Camões - Centro Cultural Português (CCP) in Luanda and Elinga Teatro.
The aim is "to stimulate the exchange of experiences between Angolan and Portuguese theaters, seeking to develop new approaches to the interpretation of reference texts in Portuguese dramaturgy", according to a note from the CCP.
Augusto Sobral (1933-2017) was a playwright, translator, stage director and set designer, collaborating in several theatrical shows such as "Notícias do Poder", "Os Macacões" and "O Caso da Mãozinha Misteriosa" in the 1970s.
"In the early 1980s, the plays 'Who Killed Alfredo Mann?' (1981) and 'Memories of a Fatal Woman' (1982) made his name a reference as one of the most important Portuguese dramatic authors", the note reads.
The play "Abel, Abel" premiered at Teatro do Bairro Alto in 1984, and is now being staged in Luanda by the Angolan director and writer José Mena Abrantes, with a soundtrack composed by Portuguese guitarist António Chainho.
The cast includes performances by actors Vírgula Capomba, Agu Água and Madaeno da Fonseca, with the production being performed by Elinga Teatro.
Elinga Teatro, which celebrates its 33rd anniversary this year, has staged and produced 57 plays by various international authors, from South Africa, Brazil, France, Norway, Colombia, Lebanon and Portugal.
