The Southern Regional Council states, in a statement, that the elective process carried out by the Northern Regional Council "was not democratic, transparent, not even legitimate" and points out several irregularities.
ORMED also considered the extraordinary general meeting of 17 October to be invalid, in which Elisa Gaspar was supposedly dismissed from office, stressing that the convocation of the assembly by the North Regional Council violated the statutes and was default.
The Northern Regional Council of the Order of Doctors of Angola (ORMED) approved on Saturday the dismissal of President Elisa Gaspar, and a management commission that should promote new elections in 90 days.
According to the resolution approved at the end of the extraordinary general meeting and read by Arlete Luyele, president of the North Regional Council of the Portuguese Medical Association, in addition to the dismissal, it was also decided to create a commission of inquiry to analyze the alleged misuse of funds and harmful management , by Elisa Gaspar, and to promote an independent audit.
In addition to considering the elected management commission "illegitimate", the Southern Regional Council does not recognize the signatures collected at the level of its region by the Northern Regional Council and says that it was not consulted in the process that culminated in the decision to dismiss the president, calling for the act "sabotage".
The statement also stresses that the use of the Zoom platform, adopted at the meeting where the dismissal and election of the management committee was approved, is "inadequate and non-conforming", even in a pandemic context, and allowed any person, even non-doctors and non linked to ORMED participate in the meeting with voting rights.
The Southern Regional Council recommends, in view of the irregularities, and failing the dialogue route, the recourse to the judicial system "for the purpose of assessing the entire process endorsed by the Northern Regional Council" and criminal liability of all the authors involved.
