PR inaugurates two hospital units and leaves a message: "It is not enough to build, we need to maintain them"

The city of Saurimo in Lunda Sul has won two new hospitals: the General Hospital and the Provincial Maternity Hospital of Lunda Sul. The hospital units were inaugurated last Saturday by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

Already after cutting the ribbon, the President made a visit to the buildings. At the ceremony, the Head of State left the guarantee that there is money to sustain the operation of the two units.

"It's not enough to build, we need to maintain them and to maintain them we need a budget and we will take care of it. We will not drop it," he said, quoted by Angop.

The guarantee is not only for these two units, but for all the units "that we have been inaugurating lately in the country", emphasized João Lourenço.

"This was done to serve the populations. We want healthy citizens, because only with healthy citizens can we think about the economic and social development of our country", he added.

João Lourenço considered that these hospitals are an advantage for Lunda Sul, but they will also be able to help serve the population in other areas of the country, such as the provinces of Moxico and Lunda Norte.

He also asked that health professionals and the population do their "best" to care for the recently inaugurated buildings.

João Lourenço took the opportunity to speak about the overall situation of the province. As in the rest of the country, the problems are being resolved gradually, he said, recognizing that there is still much work to be done. "We will continue to work and fight ceaselessly, in order to try to alleviate, more and more, the difficulties that the Angolan people go through," he said.

The two units were built with financing from China, and the total investment of the two hospitals was 68 million dollars (34 million dollars in each hospital unit).

Located in the neighborhoods of Candembe and Txizainga II, each hospital has a capacity of 150 beds. Both are composed of several medical services and operating rooms that allow three surgeries to be performed at the same time, says Angop.

A total of 479 health professionals (doctors, nurses, therapists, among others) will work at Lunda Sul General Hospital. In this unit the population will have at their disposal services of general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynecology, obstetrics, orthopedics, physiotherapy, ophthalmology, among others.

The hospital is also composed of five intensive care units, six emergency rooms, morgue, conference room, three laboratories, three operating rooms and a parking lot.

The maternity hospital is composed of intensive care, emergency, neonatology, operating room, blood bank and morgue services. As for obstetrics and gynecology, the maternity will have some new features: hemotherapy services, mammography, ultrasound, ultrasound, X-ray, cardiology and neonatology - which will consist of 10 nurseries, 12 incubators and six warm-up cribs.

The maternity will count with the collaboration of 350 health professionals.

The works of the units began in 2012, but were interrupted for three years and resumed in 2018.

Besides the hospitals, the Ministry of Health also decided to build an oxygen factory, which will be located in the maternity hospital, to ensure the proper functioning of the units.

During his visit to the province, the President also decided to visit the works of the diamond development pole.

"Because of its importance and impact on the province and the number of jobs it will create, I understood that, even if not completed, I should visit at this stage," justified the head of state.

He also left a promise that in about seven months he would visit the province again to inaugurate the pole.
