Covid-19: Africa with 281 more deaths and 9029 infected in the last 24 hours

Africa recorded 281 more deaths in the last 24 hours due to covid-19, for a total of 39,403, with 1,613,011 infected, 9029 more, according to the latest pandemic data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), in the past 24 hours, the number of recovered people in the organization's 55 member states was 6504, for a total of 1,331,708 since the start of the pandemic.

According to Africa CDC, Southern Africa continues to record the highest number of cases of infection and deaths, with 19,675 fatalities and 768,970 infected.

In South Africa alone, the continent's most affected country, 698,184 cases and 18,309 deaths are reported.

North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has 411,519 people infected and 12,339 dead, and East Africa now accounts for 189,930 cases of infection and records 3,585 fatalities.

In the West African region, the number of infections is 183,425, with 2684 fatalities and in Central Africa there are 59,167 cases and 1120 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, registers 6088 deaths and 105,033 infected, and Morocco counts 2772 fatalities and 163,650 cases.

Algeria followed, with 53,777 infections and 2121 deaths.

Among the six most affected countries are also Ethiopia, with 87,169 cases and 1325 fatalities, and Nigeria, which maintains the same numbers as 24 hours ago, 60,834 infected and 1116 dead.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases.
Angola records 228 deaths and 7096 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 5068 cases), Cape Verde (79 deaths and 7444 cases), Mozambique (73 deaths and 10,392 cases), Guinea-Bissau (41 deaths and 2389 cases) ) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 dead and 928 cases).
