According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), in the past 24 hours, the number of recovered people in the organization's 55 member states was 6004, for a total of 1,318,132 since the start of the pandemic.
According to Africa CDC, Southern Africa continues to record the highest number of cases of infection and deaths, with 19,384 fatalities and 763,958 infected.
In South Africa alone, the most affected country on the continent, 694,537 cases and 18,028 deaths were registered.
Northern Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has 400,109 people infected and 12,197 dead and East Africa now accounts for 187,017 cases of infection and records 3,545 fatalities.
In the West African region, the number of infections is 182,544, with 2674 fatalities and in Central Africa there are 58,921 cases and 1098 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 6071 deaths and 104,787 infected, and Morocco counts 2685 fatalities and 156,946 cases.
Algeria followed, with 53,242 infections and 2,112 deaths.
Among the six most affected countries are Ethiopia, with 85,718 cases and 1305 fatalities, and Nigeria, with 60,655 infected and 1,116 dead.
Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases.
Angola records 222 deaths and 6680 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 dead and 5066 cases), Cape Verde (77 dead and 7254 cases), Mozambique (73 dead and 10,258 cases), Guinea-Bissau (41 dead and 2389 cases) ) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 dead and 928 cases).
