Hotel reclassification process begins to be implemented in 2025

The Minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel, pointed to 2025 as the year in which the reclassification of national hotel units will begin to be implemented in order to attribute stars according to the quality of the services offered. Speaking on Wednesday, at the ceremony to restore the fourth star to the Diamante Hotel, the minister considered that this reclassification process will stimulate the development of the tourism sector.

According to the Minister of Tourism, the work to be carried out will involve associations of hotel infrastructures, resorts and similar establishments, which will aim to raise awareness among members to adapt to the procedure developed by the department.

According to the Jornal de Angola, the same measure will also include reviewing the legislation, as well as simplifying processes considered unnecessary, but which currently still hinder the flexibility of the system.

On the occasion, Márcio Daniel appealed to agents in the tourism sector, especially in the hotel sector, to respect the licensing and operating rules for facilities.

Zaira de Assunção, National Director of Tourism Qualification and Licensing, said that, despite the forecast of implementation next year, the reclassification process is already underway. In this sense, the official, quoted by the Jornal de Angola, explained that the measure aims to monitor all hotel infrastructures, considering the law in force, in order to classify them in accordance with the expectations for development of the tourism sector.

Law 36/16, she added, establishes the criteria for classifying hotel units, such as quality of service, decoration, location, among others, and, "if these requirements are not met, the gradual declassification will be carried out".

Regarding the Hotel Diamante, which saw its fourth star restored on Wednesday, the Minister of Tourism stated that after the hotel opened, "it was subject to a series of recommendations that were not taken into consideration until 2018", which is why the number of stars was reduced.

"After its opening in 2015, the Hotel Diamante was subject to a series of recommendations that were not taken into consideration until 2018. Therefore, in compliance with the principle of legality, the ministry reduced the number of stars from four to three", he pointed out, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

The reinstatement ceremony, according to a statement from Endiama to which VerAngola had access, took place as part of the celebrations of World Tourism Day, to be celebrated next Friday.

The event was attended by the executive director for Administration and Human Resources of Endiama, Domingos Margarida, as well as senior officials from the tourism sector and the national diamond subsector.

Quoted in the note, the Minister of Tourism "said it was a cause for joy to once again award the four-star rating to the hotel in question, after it was withdrawn in 2018".

In turn, the executive director of Endiama assured that the Hotel Diamante will continue "to work towards achieving the five-star category in the near future".
