According to Felisberto Capamba, general director of the Food, Tourism and Commerce Industry (IALTURC) – a business group to which this unit belongs and which has, also on the same site, a line dedicated to processing wheat flour and corn flour, since 2021 –, adjustments for the start of pasta production are underway.
Speaking to Angop, the manager said that the company aims to increase national production, as well as reduce imports, in line with the Government's challenges.
At the moment, the company is producing 250 tons of corn and wheat flour per day, said Capamba, adding that with the start of the pasta unit, the number of employees will increase from 140 to 200, most of whom will be local young people.
The official said that 650 peasant families are involved in the process of supplying wheat and corn to the company as raw materials, and added that the families already have approximately 755 hectares of land ready to plant improved seeds, as part of a collaboration between the company and the Agrarian Development Support Fund (FADA), writes Angop.
Thus, the general director reiterated that IALTURC intends to become a major player in national production and in the central and southern regions, especially focusing on reducing imports.
It should be recalled that in May last year, the municipality of Caála resumed wheat production, after having been halted for 13 years.
