Sonangol rehabilitates the hemodialysis center at the Girassol clinic, which is now capable of serving 70 patients per day

Hemodialysis continues to be a focus in the health sector, which saw, this Thursday, the national health system being reinforced with the reopening of a hemodialysis center at the Girassol clinic. The center, rehabilitated with the support of Sonangol, is now capable of treating 70 patients per day, compared to 50 previously.

This new hemodialysis and nephrology service will operate in three dialysis shifts, according to the head of the nephrology service at that unit, Hady Miguel.

According to the person in charge, before they had 17 chairs, now they have increased to 24. "Before we had 17, we went to 24. We had a daily capacity to serve 51 patients, spread over just two shifts, today we have a greater capacity to serve 70 daily patients, distributed across three dialysis shifts," she said

Speaking to Public Television of Angola (TPA), Hady Miguel said that with this rehabilitation they managed to improve the "quality of accommodation for patients and health professionals", as well as "guarantee more humanized care" for users.

"We have even increased our daily capacity to 70 patients per day, we have also expanded our structure in the sense of having an equipped procedure room, we have a peritoneal dialysis treatment room and a teaching room, and with this restructuring of our service we have also been able to have dialysis monitors available that allow us to guarantee more efficient dialysis compared to what we had previously", she added.

Regarding human resources, she said they were sufficient. "We have enough professionals for our ratio of patients and healthcare professionals. The service currently has 17 healthcare professionals," she said, quoted by TPA.

It is worth noting that Sonangol financially supported the rehabilitation of this center. According to Jorge Vinhas, executive director of the oil company, the project "was around two billion kwanzas".

Diamantino Azevedo, Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, reaffirmed the sector's commitment to the health sector. In statements this Thursday, during the fourth congress of the Girassol clinic, the government official reiterated the sector's commitment to maintaining the "full necessary support" to continue "innovating, expanding national health services and investing in uninterrupted training and comprehensive health chain", says a statement from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, to which VerAngola had access.

"At first glance, it may seem surprising that an oil company like Sonangol would invest in the healthcare sector. However, this strategic vision has proven fundamental. And by investing in healthcare, Sonangol is, in effect, investing in the future of Angola", said the minister, who also called on "the institution's employees for dedication, commitment and determination, to transform the Girassol clinic into a unit of excellence, differentiating throughout the country".

The congress began on the 2nd and runs until September 6th, at the Talatona Convention Center, with the motto "What Future do we want? Innovation and Sustainability".
