In a statement, to which VerAngola had access, the GPL states that of the more than 330 thousand Luanda residents who will benefit, the most important are the neighbourhoods of Gamek, Huambo, Inorade, Costa do Sol, Futungo II, Cawelele and Morro Bento I and II.

"Following the fieldwork carried out this Friday, 6 September, the water distribution centres of Benfica II and Morro Bento, once completed, will benefit more than 330 thousand inhabitants, with emphasis on the neighbourhoods of Gamek, Huambo, Inorade, Costa do Sol, Futungo II, Cawelele and Morro Bento I and II", the note reads.

The GPL also highlights that "the works on the new route of the water distribution network will also mark an important moment in the improvement of the supply and distribution infrastructures for the communities".

On the occasion, Manuel Homem reported that the rehabilitation of the water supply system at the Morro Bento distribution centre is expected to be completed by December, benefiting approximately 42,000 families in the Morro Bento I and II, Cawelele, Inorade, Futungo de Belas and Huambo neighbourhoods.

The provincial governor also pointed out that the actions to supply drinking water to these areas have caused traffic constraints due to the connection between the Benfica II and Morro Bento water distribution centres.

According to Angop, the requalification project, which is being carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Water through the Luanda Public Water Company (EPAL), covers an area of over 12,000 kilometres and began in September last year.

Adão da Silva, Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of EPAL, also spoke, stating that the project would enter the testing period, highlighting that the network was already 70 percent complete, with only the assembly of the valve boxes remaining.

During this field trip, part of the preparation work for the rainy season and the assessment of the works to improve the water supply, the Governor of Luanda headed a delegation also comprising the Deputy Governor for Technical Services and Infrastructure, members of the Ministries of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing and Energy and Water, among others.
