Filipe Zau: “Tourists come to Angola to carry out memory tourism”

The country has become a source of “memory tourism”, especially for African Americans and Europeans with an interest in Angolan culture. This consideration comes from Filipe Zau, Minister of Culture and Tourism, who says there are “tourists who come to Angola to carry out memory tourism”.

"There are tourists who come to Angola to carry out memory tourism, particularly in Luanda and Benguela, as they were the great transporters of slaves to the new world, that is, to the American continent", said the minister, in statements to the press – cited by Angop – on the occasion of World Tourism Day, which was celebrated this week.

Among the major tourist interests, the holder of the Culture and Tourism portfolio mentioned Angolan music and dance, given that certain tourists head to the country solely with the intention of learning rhythms such as kizomba, semba and kuduro, to later set up school abroad.

According to the government official, when these tourists come to the country they end up bringing resources, which end up helping to improve the economy and the social well-being of citizens, writes Angop.

On the occasion, Filipe Zau also made it known that, at the moment, the Government is working to eliminate constraints and interference in the business environment in terms of tourism, aiming to attract more tourists.

The holder of the Culture and Tourism portfolio also took the opportunity to highlight that the reappearance of tourism in the country has been noted, after the economic crisis and the pandemic. "This is the moment when tourism begins to have the conditions to appear, as it is always a consequence of a set of conditions, especially infrastructure at the State level", he considered, quoted by Angop.

As essential components for attracting investors, both national and foreign, aiming to consolidate tourism, Filipe Zau mentioned the provision of water, energy, secondary roads, among others.

According to the minister, cited by Angop, the improvement in service and services, as well as qualified hotel units, is already observed in almost the entire country, driving greater demand from tourists.

At the time, he also considered that in the country there are "all the conditions" to have "a good tourism environment".

"In Angola, we have all the conditions to have a good tourism environment. There are very beautiful natural landscapes, a diverse culture with an extremely rich and multilingual history", said the holder of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, who, cited by Angop, considered that all of this ends up contributing to tourism continuing naturally.
