US Ambassador to Angola highlights “very positive trajectory” of the relationship between the two countries

The US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, highlighted this Wednesday the “very positive trajectory” of the relationship between the two countries, adding that cooperation is not limited to security.

The diplomat, who was speaking to journalists regarding the visit of the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, stated that the United States is developing its efforts in Africa to bring different US authorities to Angola and different Angolan leaders to the America, reinforcing that cooperation is not limited to security.

"The US is interested in shared prosperity and economic diplomacy", he highlighted, also placing emphasis on good governance.

Tulinabo Mushing also highlighted the "common values" with Angola, declaring himself "happy" with the current state of bilateral relations and that he wants to continue developing in the coming years.

"This year we are celebrating 30 years of diplomatic relations", he recalled, saying that the trajectory in this period has been "very positive".

Regarding the "historic visit" of the highest North American defense authority, he considered that it shows the importance that Angola occupies and highlighted the shared objectives of security and "strategic partnership to ensure prosperity for both peoples".

Lloyd Austin, the first North American Secretary of Defense to visit Angola, met this Wednesday morning with the President, João Lourenço, after laying a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in Luanda.

In the afternoon, he spoke at the National Historical Archive, marking the end of his visit to Africa, where he visited Djibouti, Kenya and Angola.
