Lloyd Austin began his first trip to Africa on Sunday in Djibouti, at the permanent US military base, to "reaffirm a lasting commitment to the region".
During his visit to Luanda, Lloyd Austin will focus "on building stronger defense relationships and exploring paths for greater military-to-military cooperation between the US and Angola", highlighted the Department of Defense in a statement.
This presence of the North American representative on the African continent also aims to discuss "African-led solutions to mutual security challenges and highlight the importance of United States partnerships on the continent".

Lloyd Austin iniciou no Domingo a sua primeira viagem a África no Djibuti, na base militar permanente norte-americana, para "reafirmar um compromisso duradouro com a região".
Durante a visita a Luanda, Lloyd Austin irá focar-se "na construção de relações de defesa mais fortes e na exploração de caminhos para uma maior cooperação militar entre militares entre os EUA e Angola", destacou o Departamento de Defesa em comunicado.
Esta presença do representante norte-americano ao continente africano tem também como objectivo a discussão de "soluções lideradas por africanos para desafios de segurança mútuos e sublinhar a importância das parcerias dos Estados Unidos no continente".
