The presidents of the National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), Nimi a Simbi, of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), Benedito Daniel, of the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA), Bela Malaquias, and of the National Patriotic Alliance (APN), Quintino Moreira, were present at the inauguration ceremony of João Lourenço.
The ceremony took place this Thursday at Praça da República, in Luanda, and the leader of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), which contests the election results, Adalberto Costa Júnior, was absent.
Regarding UNITA's absence at this ceremony, Nimi to Simi replied: "Ask UNITA that, they have their vision, I don't have UNITA's vision and I can only speak about the FNLA".
The leader of the FNLA, which elected two deputies to the fifth legislature, said he did not believe that the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) could solve the country's basic problems in the next five years.
"I don't expect anything. If for 47 years they haven't managed to solve the nation's basic problems, in five years they will solve them? Do you believe it?", asked Nimi to Simbi.
The FNLA "goes to parliament and we are going to support all the good ideas and programs that compete to improve the living conditions of the people, we have a border of freedom and land and we will continue with it", he assured.
The president of the PRS also devalued the absence of UNITA in the investiture of João Lourenço: "I can neither criticize nor make analyzes for the decision of others".
"We had our decision and they probably have theirs and I have nothing to comment on that", said Benedito Daniel.
João Lourenço, invested this Thursday for a new five-year term, promised to pay "special attention" to social issues and "to be the President of all Angolans".
"He (President of the Republic) committed himself to the Angolans and now we are going to wait for these promises to be fulfilled", said Benedito Daniel.
And the president of the PHA, the party that elected two deputies to the fifth legislature, preferred not to comment on the absence of UNITA at the ceremony, considering, on the other hand, that João Lourenço had a conciliatory speech.
"It is a conciliatory speech, it is the speech of the moment and from now on we will see what happens about what was said", highlighted Bela Malaquias.
The Constitutional Court (TC) proclaimed the MPLA and its candidate, João Lourenço, as winners with 51.17 percent of the votes, followed by UNITA with 43.95 percent, having failed UNITA's electoral dispute appeal.
With these results, the MPLA elected 124 deputies and UNITA, which contests the results and resorted to the lead of the TC and filed, on Tuesday, an appeal of unconstitutionality, elected 90 deputies, almost double the 2017 elections.
In view of the electoral results, the MPLA must also appoint two vice-presidents and two secretaries of the National Assembly and, in the same proportion, the UNITA party.
The PRS, the FNLA and the newcomer PHA each elect two deputies.
The Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola – Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE), the APN and the P-Njango did not obtain seats in the National Assembly, which in the 2022-2027 legislature will have 220 deputies.
João Lourenço, re-elected President for the next five years, took office this Thursday and elected deputies will be sworn in on Friday.
