President of the AU Commission considers João Lourenço a leader of reconciliation for peace on the continent

Moussa Faki, president of the African Union (AU) Commission, highlighted the role played by Angola in the consolidation of peace in Africa, having considered the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, as “a leader of reconciliation for peace in the African Union”.

Speaking to the press this Wednesday, as part of an audience with the head of state, Moussa Faki also referred that Angola "plays an important role in the structure" of the AU.

According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, the president of the UA Commission was received in Cidade Alta during the afternoon of Wednesday, having, in statements to the press, considered João Lourenço "a leader of reconciliation for peace in the African Union".

At the meeting, he said, some matters from the region and the continent were also discussed: "I took the opportunity to address some issues that worry the Commission and those that have to do with the progress of our Union".

The official also referred that "he thanked the Angolan President for the implementation of the African agenda for integration and reconciliation".

According to the statement, he also said that "Angola is a central country and plays an important role in the structure of the African Union, so he wishes President João Lourenço success in his domestic and international tasks."

On the eve of the investiture ceremony, João Lourenço held several audiences with other figures, such as the president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, his counterpart from Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema, the Prime Minister of Gabon, Rose Christiane , the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Shakhboot Al Nahyan and the special envoy of the Government of China, Liu Yuxi.

The latter, according to the statement, "conveyed the greetings" of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and also the "interest to strengthen cooperation in various fields".

Cited in the note, Liu Yuki said that "China and Angola have a deep friendship" and that they have "achieved great successes in the fields of politics, economy, agriculture, health, education, etc."

He also assured that the strengthening of cooperation will encourage companies in his country to invest in Angola.
