The decision was approved this Wednesday at an extraordinary session of the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Commission of UNITA, guided by the president of the party, Adalberto da Costa Júnior, according to a statement from that organ of the largest opposition party.
"The Standing Committee notes with concern that, despite the CNE and the Constitutional Court having awarded the regime party victory, in recent days the country has experienced a worrying regression of the democratic framework with the restriction of freedoms, threats to the physical integrity of activists and political leaders, as well as members of civil society who have their own opinion", he criticizes in the statement.
The Standing Committee also points to dismissals of officials and forced transfers, in addition to censorship in state media, which is "aligned with the display of military and effective means of defense and security forces in a clear intimidation against those who want to demonstrate their against the current state of the country".
Finally, UNITA reiterates its desire to "enforce the rights of citizens and with respect for those who have placed their trust in it at the polls".
