"The court received late yesterday afternoon [Thursday] two complaints, two requests that start the electoral dispute, one from UNITA and the other from the CASA-CE coalition," said court spokeswoman Aida Gonçalves.
Regarding a possible request for annulment of the elections, the director of the political parties office of the TC, Mauro Alexandre, indicated that, of the processes that were filed, none of them refers in terms of requests made for the annulment of general elections, but did not specify the your content.
The official said only that "they have to do with the exercise of voting and the counting of votes", since the law defines the scope of electoral litigation.
A source close to the UNITA board told Lusa on Thursday that the request for annulment of the elections, sent to the TC, included "several complaints, which amount to illegalities", recorded throughout the electoral process.
Aida Gonçalves explained that before being considered, the applications will be verified by the TC to assess whether they meet the procedural requirements and assumptions and only then will they be admitted.
The TC will then cite the defendant – in this case, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) – so that it can present its counter-allegations, having a period of 72 hours to do so.
It is only after the TC receives this answer to the counter-allegations that a new period of 72 continuous hours is counted again, so that the issues can be considered and decided in a plenary session.
Mauro Alexandre also mentioned that the TC is a body with full jurisdiction, so its decision is of last resort with regard to the validation of the vote.
On Monday, the CNE announced the final results that gave a victory, with an absolute majority, to the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), a result contested by UNITA.
The president of the CNE, Manuel Pereira da Silva, proclaimed the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and its candidate, João Lourenço, as winners with 51.17 percent of the votes, followed by UNITA with 43.95 percent.
With these results, the MPLA elected 124 deputies and UNITA elected 90 deputies, almost double the 2017 elections.
The Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE), the APN and P-Njango did not obtain seats in the National Assembly, which in the 2022-2027 legislature will have 220 deputies.
This Friday, the UNITA leader claimed victory in the elections for the first time, through his account on the social network Twitter, promising to defend the "sovereignty of the people and their vote".
"Angolans, UNITA won the elections! We will defend the sovereignty of the people and their vote", wrote Adalberto Costa Júnior, challenging the CNE to compare the minutes it has with those it gave to opposition parties and reiterating that it does not accept the results disclosed.
The publication of Adalberto da Costa Júnior on Twitter was made at 00:22, shortly after he released a video statement, in which he also expressed himself on the results of the general elections held on August 24, but without proclaiming victory.
In that statement, the UNITA leader promised that he will not abandon those who voted for the party and justified the silence that his political formation has maintained on the subject with the processes related "with electoral disputes, whose deadlines are ongoing and provided for by law", referring to the complaints in the CNE.
UNITA demands that the CNE compare the minutes of polling stations in its possession with the minutes held by the parties, contesting the fact that the authorities did not even indicate the data relating to the polling stations, which allowed the final accounting.
The largest opposition party has made a parallel count from the summary minutes collected by its delegates, "a sensitive and complex process that is now in its final phase", according to Adalberto Costa Júnior.
