Angola wants to strengthen non-oil sector in trade with Spain

Angola wants to increase the participation of the non-oil sector in trade exchanges with Spain, a country with which, in 2020, it had a turnover of 629 million euros, the trade minister said this Monday.

Victor Fernandes, who integrates with the ministers of the Interior, Foreign Affairs and Finance, the delegation of the President, João Lourenço, who will begin a two-day working visit to Spain on Tuesday, said that during the work they will go From the point of view of commerce and industry, "cooperation zones that increase the balance of the non-oil sector should be identified".

"We have a Spanish business presence in Angola with some dimension already, what we want is for it to increase and diversify. Spain is an economy with some dimension in the European economic zone and which, from the point of view of industrial production, will have a lot to share with us," said the minister of Commerce and Industry, Victor Fernandes, in statements to Angolan public radio.

On his turn, the Angolan ambassador to Spain, José Luís de Matos, said that the Angolan head of State's visit program foresees for Tuesday meetings with the King of Spain and with the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez.

José Luís de Matos said that cooperation over the years will be analyzed, highlighting the excellent relations with Spain, which they intend to maintain.

"Several ministers are coming from various areas and are going to review the cooperation agreements that were signed, some a long time ago and others during Pedro Sánchez's visit to Luanda," said the head of Angola's diplomatic representation in Spain.

Angola and Spain last year registered an estimated turnover of 629 million euros, of which 81 million euros corresponded to exports from Spain to Angola and 548 million euros to purchases from the European country to the Portuguese-speaking African, with emphasis on oil.

João Lourenço visits Spain after having completed, last week, a mission in New York, United States of America.

According to a note from the Civil House of the President of the Republic, on Wednesday President João Lourenço will visit infrastructures and institutions based in the Spanish capital, Madrid, which will conclude this diplomacy action abroad, which included Washington , New York and Madrid.
